NEW 2022 Date TBC
Derbyshire Discovery Tour
We have now done the initial planning for this tour around the scenic Peak District. Based out of Baslow where there is a variety of accommodation to suit most tastes and a campsite, we are planning three circular routes on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of around 45 – 55 miles each. Folk will be free to join for all or any of the days.
We have been visiting the Peak District for years but found some fabulous scenic drives in areas new to us. Visit the grand estates such as Chatsworth, drive the dramatic “Cat & Fiddle” road to 1,700 feet over the moors (in the past it gained a reputation of being used by mad motorcyclists but there are so many speed cameras these days it is completely safe), for the foodies, we aim to visit Bakewell for a famous pie and the equally well known Hartington Cheese Shop. We are also planning to visit some lovely places like Tissington and Castleton and probably take a peak (excuse the pun!) into one of several caverns in the area. On the Sunday we are planning to drive over Mam Tor with it’s stunning views of Winnats Pass – they say on a clear day that you can see all the way to Manchester! – and we will try and fit in a visit to the famous “plague” village of Eyam where the villagers made the heroic decision to quarantine themselves to prevent the spread of the disease. As you will gather a lot to see and we may not be able to do it all but we will do our best.
Finally, If you like walking, you can’t visit the Peak District without taking your boots and so we will be arranging to stay on an extra night or two for those who want a break from driving and a chance to enjoy some fabulous walking country.
To register interest please contact stephen.r.edmonds@btinternet.com or 07976 921986
